How to add page numbers to a PDF

Reports, theses, legal bundles and manuals are much easier to refer to when every page has a number. You can add them to a finished PDF without going back to the original document.

Open Add page numbers →

Steps

  1. Open Add page numbers on PDFoxen.
  2. Select your PDF.
  3. Choose the position, for example bottom centre or top right.
  4. Pick a format such as 1, Page 1, or Page 1 of 10, and the starting number.
  5. Click Apply and download the numbered PDF.

Tips

If your file has a cover page, set the starting number so the first content page shows 1, or remove the number from the cover by starting after it.

If you are joining several files into one bundle, merge them first with Merge PDF, then add numbers so they run continuously.

Common questions

Will the numbers cover my text?

They are placed in the page margin. If your document has very small margins, choose a corner position.

Can I start from a number other than 1?

Yes. Set any starting number.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Numbers are added in your browser.
